Narrative
MCCLEAN CO., IL – A wrong-way crash along the interstate just south of Bloomington killed a child and injured two adults on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on the westbound side of I-74 near mile marker 139, which is between Bloomington and Downs.
Police say that the driver of a car entered the wrong side of the interstate and crashed into an 18-wheeler and a delivery van.
An 8-year-old passenger in the wrong-way vehicle died from injuries sustained in the collision.
The drivers of the car and the van were hospitalized with serious injuries.
Officials closed the interstate for more than six hours while crews worked at the scene.
A full investigation is underway to determine what caused the driver of the car to cross the interstate.
